ILEANET – Innovation through the creation of a network of european security forces

On a daily basis, law enforcement officers face a number of problems ranging from basic practical needs to more complex technical and societal challenges. What exactly are these problems and how can they be resolved ? What solutions – approaches, methods, technologies – already exist and might simply not be known about or shared ? How to ensure that future research and innovation programmes are dedicated to the development of tools and approaches that are really useful to the services tasked with enforcing the law ? ILEAnet’s main mission is to help find answers by bringing together Europe’s security forces and their staff to discuss these questions.

ILEAnet: “the place to ask questions you have and get answers you need.”

The project aims to build a sustainable network and community, implemented by and for law enforcement practitioners, to address the current and emerging priority issues they face. It will enable better communication as well as exchanges between the practitioner organisations and between individuals. As necessary other selected profiles will be invited to join the network based on their expertise. This will create a bridge between law enforcement, academia, scientists, industry and decision makers. ILEAnet will ensure that the dialogue allows the security forces to influence research, development and innovation and therefore steer future work and funding towards initiatives and tools which are of actual use to them.

The ILEAnet exchange platform

The ILEAnet Network as well as the Community of individuals are supported by the online ILEAnet platform, which is home to all the exchanges. To access the content on this online and collaborative space and to join the community of police officers, gendarmes and other practitioners and experts from Europe and beyond, please contact the National Contact Point (INC). The INCs approve membership requests, ensure the smooth running of the national networks and in collaboration with the ILEAnet Coordinator and the project’s Scientific Coordinator ensure the quality of the online discussions.

The INC for France is officer Thomas Fressin from the research centre at the National Gendarmerie Officers’ School. He can be contacted by emailing: INC-France(at)eurtd.com.
