SUPPORT PROGRAMME TO STRENGTHEN SECURITY IN THE MOPTI REGION (PARSEC)
The PARSEC project is being implement by a consortium managed by Expertise France which includes CIVIPOL and GIZ.
The project is split into two main goals: improve the security of populations and local control in the Mopti region, and improve management of the border areas in this same region (Mali-Burkina Faso).
Re-establish the rule of law in the centre of Mali
At the heart of a region which is vulnerable to terrorist and criminal groups, the aim of the first goal is to improve the populations’ safety and local control whilst respecting the rule of law. In the Mopti region, PARSEC is helping to set up an operational command centre for a rapid action force within the gendarmerie, a surveillance and action squad, two river brigades and two first-aid stations. The PARSEC project is funding the construction of buildings to house these new units, providing materials and giving training sessions to make the units operational.
Management of border areas
PARSEC implements a mechanism for managing the border zone with Burkina Faso at the border post of Koro Cercle. This will allow inter-service forces to register reliable information that can be used by the political and administrative authorities on the flow of goods and people.
The PARSEC project will equip the Malian forces with a surveillance aircraft to improve the efficiency of this mechanism.
