SAFECARE : 'protection of critical health infrastructures in Europe'

Over the last decade the EU has faced increasing and heterogeneous threats. Furthermore, since almost everything is connected to the internet, the borders between the physical and the cyber world are becoming increasingly blurred. As a result, threats cannot be analysed purely as either physical or cyber which means that an integrated approach to tackle them must be developed. Health services are among the most critical and vulnerable infrastructures.

Protection of critical health infrastructures

The aim of SAFECARE is to provide solutions that improve the physical security and cybersecurity of health infrastructures.

It will encourage new technologies and novel approaches aimed at enhancing threat prevention, threat detection and incident response.

The project will help increase compliance between security tools and European regulations covering ethics and privacy for health services. Finally, pilot projects involving security and health practitioners will take place in hospitals in Marseille, Turin and Amsterdam to simulate attack scenarios in near realistic conditions. These pilots will be used as case studies for the dissemination of the results and to bolster the protection of critical health infrastructures in Europe.

Role of the French Ministry of the Interior

The French Ministry of the Interior is one of the consortium partners and represented by the public security headquarters for the Bouches-du-Rhône (DDSP 13 – Direction départementale de la Sécurité publique).

CIVIPOL is tasked with the project’s financial and administrative management on behalf of the Ministry of the Interior.

SAFECARE is funded by the EU’s Horizon 2020 programme under agreement No. 787002.
