  • Deployment of a French police officer at Tbilisi International Airport under the framework of Prometheus

    Posted on 22 January 2021

In September 2020, the Parliament of Georgia adopted a new amendment to the “Law on the Rules and Procedures for Georgian Citizens Exiting and Entering Georgia”. This new regulation, which entered into force on January 1, 2021, stipulates that since that date, documents of Georgian citizens traveling to the Schengen Area Member States will be inspected at Georgia border crossing points on the basis of Schengen criteria.

Prometheus Project offered its assistance to the Georgian authorities for the first steps of the implementation of this new law on exit control checks.

For this purpose, a French on-duty police officer was deployed at Tbilisi International Airport on January 20 for at least one month. Stéphane Andrique has a great experience in this field. He previously worked for several years as an Immigration Liaison Officer in Bangkok (Thailand) and in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo).

His task will be to help his Georgian colleagues to verify that the required documents to enter the Schengen Area are present and in order. He will also organize some occasional training sessions for the airport Patrol Police officers (about Schengen rules, profiling, document fraud).
